That Laugh

Last session, the party was approached by an unknown ship that teleported into close range. Its leader, Varrick, claimed to have an artifact capable of destroying the Beast's pieces and offered his help. When the party refused, suspicious of his motives, Varrick attacked.

Using a devastating beam weapon, Varrick wrecked the Warden ship instantly while his troops boarded afterwards. The party, along with Connor and Maria, defended their position but failed to spot a group of cultists sneaking toward their own ship.

An explosion ensued, killing Ruby. As Varrick’s ship turned to leave, the party realized his true goal: the Last Piece of the Beast (the tattoo) had transferred from Ruby to one of the retreating cultists.
